YouTube Streaming Guide

Fan streaming tips for supporting PerthSanta content on YouTube.

Updated August 24, 2026

These are fan-community streaming recommendations and are not official platform rules unless explicitly stated otherwise.

YouTube changed how public views are counted on August 24, 2026. Starting playback now counts as a public view, while continued watching is tracked as engagement.

At a Glance

Start = Public View
Keep Watching = Engagement

Want to help the public view count?

Find the official video

Open the official YouTube upload. Prefer the official artist/channel upload.

Start the video

Let the video begin playing normally. Starting from the first frame can count as a public view under the Aug 24, 2026 rule.

That’s a public view

There’s no fixed minimum watch time required solely for the public counter.

If you have time, keep watching

Continuing naturally can also contribute to engaged viewing, watch time, and retention.

Example Open official video → Press Play → Video starts → Public View

Want to support engagement too?

Open the official video

Press Play

Keep watching naturally

Watch because you genuinely want to. If you have time, watch a meaningful portion or finish the video.

Engage if you want

Like, leave a genuine comment, or share.

Enjoy the content normally

Watch time, retention, and genuine interaction still matter.

Example Open official video → Play → Keep watching → Like / Comment / Share → Engaged Viewing

More time? Keep watching. Less time? Starting the official video can still contribute to the public view count.

Public Views — In Detail

Helping increase the visible YouTube view count

Starting August 24, 2026, a public view is counted as soon as the video starts playing from the first frame — across regular videos, Shorts, livestreams, and other YouTube video formats. In practice, this means:

  • The video beginning to play can count as a public view.
  • There's no longer a minimum watch-time requirement simply for the public view counter.
  • Public views may therefore rise faster than they did before.
  • This visible number mainly reflects exposure and playback starts — not deep engagement.

Just seeing a thumbnail without interacting with it is still only an impression, not a view. But if a preview or autoplay actually begins playing the video, it can count as a public view from that first frame.

Engaged Views — In Detail

Helping show real viewer interest and support

Engaged views reflect viewers who continue watching beyond the initial first frame, or who actively click or tap to watch. Even though a public view can now count immediately, if you genuinely want to support PerthSanta content, keep watching — engagement is still what matters most for the algorithm, for creators, and for real support.

  • Watch naturally, without skipping right away.
  • Continue watching beyond the opening seconds instead of stopping right after playback starts.
  • Ideally, watch a meaningful portion — or the full video if you're enjoying it.
  • Interact naturally with the content as you watch.
  • Keep likes, comments, and shares genuine and relevant.
  • Longer watch time and retention still matter for how a video performs.
  • Recommendation and analytics systems (like CTR, average view duration, and retention) still rely heavily on engaged viewing behavior.
  • Creator earnings and YouTube Partner Program metrics are still based on qualified, engaged viewing — not the new public view number alone.

Public View

  • Counts from the first frame
  • Measures exposure
  • Drives the visible public view counter
  • May increase faster after Aug 24, 2026

Engaged View

  • Viewer keeps watching, or actively chooses to watch
  • Reflects meaningful engagement
  • Important for watch time, retention, and performance
  • Still relevant to monetization / qualified viewing

Best Practices

  • Search for the target video manually and watch the official upload.
  • Watch at 720p+ quality with the volume audible, rather than muted or backgrounded.
  • Keep watching a genuine, meaningful portion of the video — the full video if you can.
  • Like it and leave a genuine comment related to the content you're watching.

Busy? Use a Streaming Playlist

Studying, working, sleeping, or otherwise can't actively choose videos yourself? Use a PerthSanta streaming playlist instead, so you can keep watching — and building genuine engaged watch time — passively.

What Not To Do

  • Don’t encourage artificial or automated traffic — YouTube still validates traffic and can remove invalid or artificial views even after they've been counted.
  • Don’t use bots, auto-refresh tools, scripts, or any form of artificial traffic.
  • Repetitive, unnatural viewing behavior can still be filtered out.
  • Genuine viewing and real engagement remain the safest way to support PerthSanta.
